Ray Cosman

Senior Advisor, Carlyle Group

From February of 2016 to present, Raymond Cosman has served as a Senior Advisor on the Investor Relations team at the Carlyle Group based in New York City. In his role he has worked actively with the Carlyle Global Opportunistic Infrastructure Fund, as well as other product areas and fund initiatives within the Carlyle Group.

Prior to his retirement from Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, North America in 2015, Ray was Vice Chairman of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, North America and a member of the Executive Committee for Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets is the largest investor and manager of infrastructure assets globally. Ray and his team were responsible for marketing, distribution, and investor relations for North America. Ray led building out a new placement team after Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets spun out of the Macquarie Group to be part of Macquarie’s asset management group.

Ray has extensive private equity fundraising experience. In 1994 he was a co-founder of the Private Fund Group at Donaldson, Lufkin, & Jenrette(DLJ), which was acquired by Credit Suisse in 2000. Ray served as Head of Global Distribution and Co-Head of the Private Fund Group. He was actively involved in relationships with General Partners and Limited Partners in addition to co-managing the business. The Private Fund Group grew to be a global business and the largest private fund placement business in the World, During the 16 years that Ray was at the Private Fund Group they closed on 255 private equity funds globally totaling $344 billion. Ray retired from Credit Suisse and the Private Fund Group during 2010.

Ray spent 18 years at Merrill Lynch before joining DLJ. He spent 10 years at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets in the private placement business marketing private equity funds and direct placements. At the time Merrill Lynch was the leader in private equity fund placements. Prior to that time he was an Executive Vice President at Merrill Lynch Economics, an econnomic forecasting and consulting firm where he was responsible for the marketing and client relations functions.

Ray is a native of Montana and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Montana.
